Personal Thoughts

This Set-Neck Strat Ultra is something really special. It was part of John Page’s bold experiments in the Fender Custom Shop back in the early ‘90s, where he started incorporating Gibson-like construction techniques into Fender designs. The result? A Strat that has sustain for days, deeper resonance, and an unmistakably powerful tone while still retaining the flexibility and clarity you’d expect from a Stratocaster.

The mahogany body and set-neck construction give it that weighty, thick tone, adding extra warmth and sustain that you just don’t get in a traditional bolt-on Strat. The Lace Sensor pickups deliver a noiseless, super smooth response, with the Dually Red in the bridge giving it some serious punch when you dig in. It’s got low action, plays like butter, and absolutely sings on both clean and overdriven tones.

This is honestly one of my favorite models of all time, and getting my hands on this one from a collector in Texas has been a thrill. These are crazy rare, and in my opinion, some of the best guitars Fender has ever produced.

Condition Report

This guitar is in mint condition, with barely a mark on it. The Cherry Red finish still looks deep and glossy, the gold hardware is in fantastic shape, and the frets are near-perfect. Sustain, playability, and tone are all off the charts.

It’s missing the original COA, but I’m currently in the process of getting a replacement from Fender, so the new owner will receive it with the guitar.

Final Thoughts

This is the ultimate Strat in my opinion—a rare gem from the John Page era, built when Fender was truly pushing the boundaries. If you want a one-of-a-kind Custom Shop Strat that brings a bit of Gibson-like beef while still keeping that Fender DNA, this is it. Not many of these come up for sale, and when they do, they don’t stick around for long.
